Have job opp in Ft. Lauderdale but from LA. How is lifestyle and is it a good place for a 32 yr old single?

I live in Hermosa Beach, and it is becoming too small for me, it is more of a suberb with a ton of frat parties; however I do love the fun and the beach aspect of it, and the community feel plus tons of good little restaurants here. I also have a lot of friends here. It's just growing very old and I'm tired of the same scene. I want something a little similar but with more of a city feel, more to do and more culture. Sounds like Ft. Lauderdale is the perfect place with water taxis, better beaches, and some beautiful shopping/restaurant/bar areas, as well as an airport, museums etc. Any thoughts? Is it easy to make friends there? Should I take the leap?
