How long does proceedings for forecloseure take?

My husband and I are losing our house because a mess up in bankrupcy, and the fact we can't make the payments anymore. We are really behind in payments. Our jobs has slowed down so much that we can barely buy grocies, we have two kids I don't know what to do. His family can't help us and my family lives far away. We havent got our letter telling us to get out, how long do we have before they do the foreclose? They just told us that they will start the proceedings Sept 25th so we are thinking about 4 months, does anyone have an idea how long it takes. We both would like to find better jobs and save some money because we dont have money to move.
