Atheists- How do SOME of you justify insulting a person or a group of people based solely on their beliefs?

I, for one, don't insult people's intelligence when I'm challenging their beliefs. However, those who do think that religious people must have very low intelligence to believe the nonsense they do. I think that most of them were simply brought up like that or started believing out of desperation in a high risk part of their life.
